Murchison Swimming Pool & Splashpad

WESTERN AUSTRALIA

WFBD was commissioned by The Shire of Murchison to design and construct a Community Pool and Splashpad facility for the Murchison Oasis Caravan Park as part of the overall redevelopment of the Murchison Settlement. The size and scope of the facility was to consist of a 3 lane swimming pool with a toddler pool area, a 130m² splashpad, shade sails and pump house. The Murchison Settlement is approximately 650m north east of Perth and this remote outback location provided many challenges for the WFBD team to overcome, including extreme temperatures and the sourcing of trades and materials.

The pool is an impressive 16.7 x 8m with 3 separate, interconnecting zones. One zone is marked with 3 lanes for lap swimming, the second zone is at depth of 1.2m perfect for children and the third zone is a toddler pool with a water fountain. The pool and the splashpad are covered by 6 high quality shade sails, perfect for the extremely hot climate of the Western Australian outback.

The splashpad surface is exposed aggregate and the overall appearance of the design is colourful and engaging. The pad consists of a beautiful Sturt Desert Pea feature, a yellow Everlasting flower feature, a large red dumper bucket, four colourful arch sprays, two water cannons and twelve small ground sprays with various faces. It also includes a number of standard features such as push button activation, no standing water and random sequenced features.

The overall result is a visually appealing, low-maintenance pool and splashpad that is a high-quality addition to the Murchison Settlement facilities.
