Myrtleford Splash Park
VICTORIA
Water Features by Design was commissioned by the Alpine Shire in Victoria to design and construct an interactive splash park in the regional, river-side town of Myrtleford. The design consists of a splash pad, shelters, picnic tables and accessible amenities.
Through extensive community consultation, concept designs were created that reflected the unique character of Myrtleford: counter-levers to recognise local mining in the area, arbours and shelters inspired by existing local architecture and the platypus-themed water play area inspired by the local platypus population in nearby Happy Valley Creek. It also features a beautiful Aboriginal mosaic put together by local artists. The splash park is a symbol of recovery and resilience; it supports physical and mental wellbeing, encourages outdoor activities and strengthens community connections. It is a space for joy, laughter and being together.
The 240m² splash pad consists of a range of randomly sequenced ground sprays, push button activators, duelling water cannons, a water mushroom and giant, triple dumper bucket. The geometric arches and arbours form water tunnels and showers, providing a fun and refreshing space for the community to enjoy and play. The bronze platypus sculptures positioned around the play area are both unique and captivating. Natural rocks beautifully frame the splash pad, seamlessly merging the water features with the surrounding environment and enhancing the landscape's overall design.
